Andre Ayew headed a second-half winner as West Ham gatecrashed Burnley’s party by snatching a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor.
Already assured of Premier League survival and their highest finish since 1975, the Clarets were in the mood to celebrate on the final day and Sam Vokes enlivened the atmosphere further by putting them ahead.
But Sofiane Feghouli responded with a quick leveller and, after Sean Dyche’s men wasted several chances to reclaim the lead, Ayew punished the hosts by pouncing on a rebound after 72 minutes.

The Algerian was West Ham’s dangerman in the first half, popping up all over the field. He took one chance and could have had two more goals. He faded after the break but his performance was still a a strong one.

The Burnley fans are rightly delighted to have stayed in the @premierleague – see you next season!#COYI #BURWHU pic.twitter.com/4VmBd9DU4z— West Ham United (@WestHamUtd) May 21, 2017
It may have been the end of the season but the behaviour of some supporters must have been frustrating for the stadium authorities. First a flare from West Ham fans was thrown onto the playing surface and then a pitch invasion by Clarets supporters delayed Sean Dyche and his squad’s planned lap of appreciation.

24 – GOAL!!! Sam Vokes taps in from close range following Gray's squared pass. #ClaretsLIVE 1-0— Burnley FC (@BurnleyOfficial) May 21, 2017
Vokes has finished the season strongly, with his first-half strike being his fifth in the last five games. It also took his top-flight tally for the campaign to 10, making him only the second Burnley player to reach double figures in a Premier League season after Danny Ings two years ago.
