Bournemouth defender Steve Cook targets top-half finish

Bournemouth defender Steve Cook has challenged his team-mates to secure a top-half finish and sign off from the Premier League campaign in style.
The 10th-placed Cherries beat Burnley 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday to move on to 45 points and better their 2015/16 tally.
Burnley looked to have secured a point with just seven minutes left when Sam Vokes cancelled out Junior Stanislas’ first-half effort.
However, Josh King earned Bournemouth all three points when he converted a low cross from substitute Ryan Fraser.
With added prize money the higher a team can finish, Cook feels Eddie Howe’s men can again produce the goods when they travel to Leicester next Sunday.
“We have got one more game and the incentives are still there for us to finish in the top half, but I thought we were very professional and topped off a good home campaign here (against Burnley),” Cook said on the club’s official website.
“It is always difficult, a lot of sides do have a big strong centre-forward. Every game is different, we defended well as a team. It is a shame we didn’t get the clean sheet but overall I think we are very pleased.”
Midfielder Lewis Cook also sees no reason why Bournemouth should not be able to leave the King Power Stadium with another positive result.
“We just want to carry on winning and try to climb that table and finish as high as we can,” he said.
“We want to keep improving from last year and the year before that.”
Despite the defeat, results elsewhere over the weekend meant Burnley will again be playing top-flight football next season.
Iceland midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who set up Vokes’ equaliser, hopes the Clarets can now enjoy their final game of the season against West Ham at Turf Moor next weekend.
“We have been unbelievable at home. The fans have been great at home as well and we want to finish off with a great performance and hopefully get the three points,” he said on Burnley’s official website.
