Huddersfield are back in the top flight after 45 years, clinching Premier League football and a £170million windfall by beating Reading on penalties in the Championship play-off final after the score had finished 0-0 at the end of extra time.
The Terriers faced an uphill battle after fans’ favourite Michael Hefele missed his spot-kick, only for Liam Moore to blaze over and Danny Ward – the shootout hero in the semi-final at Sheffield Wednesday – to save Jordan Obita’s penalty.
Christopher Schindler stepped up to send Huddersfield into the top flight for the first time since 1972, leading to wild celebrations on the field and in the stands.

Well done @htafcdotcom … The owner deserves everything that comes his way … One guy who has bankrolled a towns ambition …— Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) May 29, 2017
Star man – Aaron Mooy

The Town midfielder looked like one of the few players on show who could be Premier League material. A class act in the centre and would not have deserved to have been on the losing side.
Moment of the match

After Liam Moore had skied his penalty and Mooy levelled the shoot-out at 3-3, Ward kept out Obita’s effort before Schindler sent the away fans wild with a nerveless spot-kick.
Izzy serious?

Huddersfield’s Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown somehow missed an open goal from two yards out. The youngster only had to tap in a cross from Elias Kachunga to give Town a first-half lead, but the ball hit his shin and flew wide.
Face in the crowd

Acting royalty Sir Patrick Stewart was in the Wembley stands. It turns out he is a Huddersfield fan, despite having never once mentioned them on Star Trek.
