Manchester City secured third spot in the Premier League as Walter Mazzarri’s Watford farewell ended in a 5-0 home humiliation.
Sergio Aguero scored twice while Vincent Kompany, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus chipped in as City finished the season in style.
It was an acrimonious end to Mazzarri’s year in charge but a satisfying finale – albeit not a particularly taxing one – for Pep Guardiola and City.

Star man – David Silva

The Spaniard revelled in the space afforded to him by Watford’s makeshift defence. If at times he made it look too easy, that’s because it probably was. But a delight to watch nonetheless.

Silva’s precision ball sent Leroy Sane scampering down the right and his cross was met by Aguero, who finished past Gomes for a slick third goal for City.

Troy Deeney out warming up on his own, giving the halftime team talk a swerve #watfordfc— Andy Sims (@AndyCSims) May 21, 2017
To say Walter Mazzarri’s final teamsheet raised a few eyebrows would be an understatement. Naming two goalkeepers on the bench was bizarre enough, but to pointedly leave captain Troy Deeney out of a side riddled with injuries seemed almost vindictive.
