Arsenal have never finished outside the Premier League’s top four in any of Arsene Wenger’s 20 years in charge but following their north London derby defeat to Tottenham, the Gunners have it all to do if they are to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The 2-0 defeat at White Hart Lane on Sunday leaves Wenger’s side in sixth place, six points adrift of Manchester City in fourth, albeit with a game in hand over all five of the teams ahead of them.

With title contenders Chelsea and Tottenham now out of Arsenal’s reach, there are two Champions League spots up for grabs as the season nears its conclusion.
Arsenal face another stern test when they welcome fifth-place Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday before taking on Southampton, Stoke, Sunderland and Everton in their remaining league fixtures – with all five of those games coming in the space of just 14 days.
Since a top four spot is no longer in Arsenal’s hands, they will have to rely on favours from elsewhere if Wenger is to hold onto his impressive record.
Here, we look at Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United’s forthcoming fixtures to assess where points could be dropped in the run-in.

The Reds had the Manchester clubs to thank for retaining their place in the top four this weekend, with both City and United only picking up a single point in their clashes with Middlesbrough and Swansea respectively. And Liverpool could extend their lead over the chasing pack when they take on Watford on Bank Holiday Monday. Jurgen Klopp’s men only come up against one top-10 team in their last four games – when Southampton visit Anfield on May 7 – before facing West Ham and Middlesbrough. It is their final game of the season that could end up posing the biggest problem. Boro are fighting for their lives at the foot of the table and, with six points separating them from Hull in 17th, they could need to beat Liverpool to stay up.
4th – Manchester City

City could potentially be three points behind third-place Liverpool by the time they play their next game but they have the opportunity to put the pressure back on the Merseysiders against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Pep Guardiola’s side play their next two matches – against the Eagles and then Leicester – at 12.30pm on a Saturday, with Liverpool not in action until the following day on both occasions. City also have home advantage in their next three matches before heading to Watford on the last day of the season. Like Liverpool, City only have one top-10 opponent left to face, with West Brom visiting the Etihad on Tuesday, May 16. The likelihood of them dropping out of the top four certainly looks slim.
5th – Manchester United

United’s congested fixture list makes the task of securing a top four spot a difficult one. Jose Mourinho’s side travel to face Celta Vigo in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday before heading to Arsenal for Sunday’s Premier League showdown. They then play the home leg against the LaLiga side on May 11 before taking on Tottenham at White Hart Lane three days later. United then have another away fixture against Southampton before hosting Palace on the final day. Mourinho’s men are unbeaten in their last 25 league games but have drawn 12 of those matches – including their last two. They will need to return to winning ways soon if they are to finish in the top four.
