Where next for Marco Silva?

Marco Silva has left Hull following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
The 39-year-old narrowly failed to save the Tigers from an immediate return to the Championship after signing a short-term contract in January until the end of the season.
Here, Press Association Sport looks at five possible destinations for the Portuguese now that he has left the KCOM Stadium.

Porto

Silva was reported to have held talks with Porto on Tuesday after the Portuguese side parted company with Nuno Espirito Santo. Porto are in next season’s Champions League after finishing second in the Primeira Liga, which could be a big pull for Silva. A return to his homeland, where he made his name as a manager with Estoril, might also appeal.

Crystal Palace

Remaining in the Premier League would be lucrative and Palace are one of two clubs to have recently parted company with their manager. Sam Allardyce’s surprise resignation on Tuesday has reportedly led to the south London club making their interest known. Palace have some exciting attacking talent in their squad and with a bit of tweaking Silva may feel he might be able to maximise the club’s potential and soar with the Eagles next season.

Watford

Walter Mazzarri’s sacking means there is also a vacancy at Vicarage Road. The Watford squad is perhaps not as talented as that of Palace and arguably only marginally better than what Silva inherited at Hull. The Hornets have a high turnover of managers too.

Southampton

Claude Puel

Claude Puel remains manager at St Mary’s although there is speculation his job is under threat, despite Saints finishing eighth in the Premier League and reaching the EFL Cup final.

China

A host of global stars have been attracted to the Chinese Super League by the astronomical wages on offer. Silva would need to weigh up whether he would be prepared to sacrifice possibly pivotal years of a promising career in elite-level European club management, if an offer came in.
